Kerma Profile Measurements in CT Chest Scans– a Comparison of Methodologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Brazilian legislation has only established diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in terms of Multiple Scan Average Dose (MSAD) as a quality control parameter for computed tomography (CT) scanners. Compliance with DRLs can be verified by measuring the Computed Tomography Kerma Index (Ca,100) with a pencil ionization chamber or by obtaining the kerma distribution in CT scans with radiochromic films or rod shape lithium fluoride termoluminescent dosimeters (TLD-100). TL dosimeters were used to record kerma profiles and to determine MSAD values of a Bright Speed model GE CT scanner. Measurements were done with radiochromic films and TL dosimeters distributed in cylinders positioned in the center and in four peripheral bores of a standard polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) body CT dosimetry phantom. Irradiations were done using a protocol for adult chest. The maximum values were found at the midpoint of the longitudinal axis. The MSAD values obtained with three dosimetric techniques were compared. Keywords—Kerma profile, CT, MSAD, patient dosimetry

Measurement of organ dose in chest CT examination using Monte Carlo simulation
Background: Exposure conditions in CT examinations are quite different from conventional Xray. In CT examination higher dose is given to patient in comparison with the dose in other diagnostic examinations. In order to calculate organ effective dose in chest CT, Monte Carlo simulation has been used in this study. Materials and Methods: The Impact survey data were used to determine the ...

Introduction: There are several techniques for reducing the delivered dose from CT scans such as the automatic exposure control (AEC). This technique regulates the tube current regarding the patient size and weight. The aim of this study was estimation the effective and equivalent dose for radiosensitive organs in women undergoing chest CT scans with or without AEC system using the patient&rsqu...
متن کاملClinical Value of Low Dose CT- Scan in Pediatric Chest Diseases: Adequacy Assessment
Background Radiation dose about 400 times that of standard thoracic computed tomography (CT) in comparison with chest X- ray resulting in different approaches to decrease radiation dose have been established in the last few years to prevent possible side effects especially in children, such as low dose protocols. The aim of this study was assessment of clinical v...
